On October 10, 2026, CABS brought its EC members and volunteers together for a day of reflection, appreciation, and connection. The program began with an EC meeting, followed by a volunteer appreciation lunch, celebrating the collective effort behind the organization’s activities and its recent annual conference.

During the EC meeting, committee co-chairs reviewed conference achievements, shared lessons learned, and discussed upcoming programs. Across the updates, one message stood out: the conference’s success depended on the dedication and collaboration of people working both in the spotlight and behind the scenes.

The volunteer report highlighted a team of 89 volunteers organized into 12 groups. Their contributions spanned registration, logistics, photography, speaker interviews, reception support, and other essential functions. Team leads received particular recognition for coordinating responsibilities and helping volunteers work together effectively. The team included both returning participants and newcomers, united by an interest in giving back, building connections, and developing professionally.

The extensive preparation was also recognized that made the conference possible, from sponsor outreach and promotional communications to website updates and the design and production of conference materials. The internally designed program book was highlighted as a meaningful achievement, reflecting the creativity, persistence, and coordination of the team.

Another milestone was the conference’s inaugural poster session, which gave high school students and summer interns opportunities to present their work and connect with faculty and industry professionals. Organizers welcomed the positive response and expressed enthusiasm for continuing this opportunity for emerging scientists.

Alongside these achievements, EC members discussed ways to strengthen future events, including earlier coordination across committees, broader volunteer involvement, and improvements informed by attendee feedback. Members and volunteers were also encouraged to consider taking on leadership responsibilities and contributing to CABS’s continued development.

The appreciation lunch provided an opportunity to continue conversations, share a meal, and recognize the people behind these accomplishments. It brought the focus back to the spirit of service that sustains the CABS community.

CABS extends its heartfelt thanks to all volunteers, team leads, EC members, and supporters. Their time, expertise, and commitment help create valuable opportunities for scientific exchange, professional growth, and lasting connections.
