Toby Freedman
President, Synapsis Search Biotech Recruiting
Toby Freedman is an author and President of Synapsis Search biotech recruiting. A scientist by training, she transitioned into business as a recruiter and author. Based on over 200 interviews with industry executives, Toby published her book, Career Opportunities in Biotechnology and Drug Development by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press, which provides a comprehensive overview of the many careers in the life sciences industry.
Toby founded her own recruiting consultancy, Synapsis Search, which is focused on biotech recruiting for small companies and non profit organizations in the San Francisco area. Previously she worked at BioQuest, an executive retained recruiting company, and before that was Director of Business Development at SLIL Biomedical, a drug discovery startup developing therapeutics for cancer.
Toby obtained a Ph.D. in molecular biology/biology from UNC Chapel Hill, a B.S. from the University of California, and as an NIH Fellow, conducted postdoctoral research at Harvard University and at the University of Texas-Austin. She is the Program Chair for the BioScience Forum, a non-profit educational forum serving the San Francisco Bay Area biotechnology community.
